Client Story: From Career Uncertainty to Purposeful Reinvention

One of the things I love most about coaching is seeing what happens when people create the space to pause, reflect and reconnect with what really matters to them.

Katrina Davies came to coaching during a period of uncertainty, unsure of what she wanted next and facing a number of challenges both personally and professionally. Over time, our work together helped her reconnect with her values, build confidence and ultimately make decisions that felt more aligned with the life she wanted to create.

I’m incredibly grateful to Katrina for sharing her experience so openly. Here is her story in her own words

Where were you when you first sought out coaching?

I was facing quite a few challenges in life. It felt like I was at a crossroads, very unsure what to do next.

How did the coaching support you? What felt most helpful or valuable?

Yvonne helped me work out what was most important to me. Naming my values and aligning them with how I want to spend my valuable time, I was able to reframe my situation to seize the opportunities open to me. She gave me the confidence to set off in a direction with an unknown destination knowing that it would be on my terms.

What’s changed for you since starting coaching?

I’ve altered my career path and recognised that I am not defined by my career alone. I have learnt how to be kinder to myself and developed a more positive outlook – I feel more like me again! I’ve nurtured a daily habit of writing about the small but important things I appreciate about life, and I now start most days in my garden after exercise, meditating in the sights, sounds and smells of nature. I’ve deliberately tried things outside my comfort zone; I’ve discovered so many times that this takes me to unexpectedly exciting situations.

Yvonne was the first person to introduce me to the term “social entrepreneur”, opening the door for me to think more creatively in my work, creativity I had suppressed for decades.

I’ve subsequently been accepted onto the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme to raise awareness of the links between health, climate, inequalities and nature, and to promote amongst primary healthcare professionals the multiple benefits of more sustainable healthcare.

What did you enjoy most about the experience of being coached?

Knowing that I was not being judged, and that my eyes would be opened each session to another way to look at my current situation. Time to think and be gently challenged to be braver in my choices. Increasing confidence in my abilities as each month went by, rediscovering myself and being true to my values. Yvonne was very flexible if life threw curve balls, keeping external stressors during the session to a minimum. This was much appreciated.

What would you say to someone considering coaching with Yvonne?

I was not sure what to expect, having only experienced short, quite formulaic coaching sessions from a large organisation. Coaching with Yvonne was totally different, focused on listening to and understanding my specific situation. I didn’t come out with a named career pathway at the end, but with something much more valuable: the confidence to step away from a previous path and into the unknown, knowing that my values were driving my choices.

In a sentence or two, how would you sum up your experience?

With Yvonne as my guide, I was given many gifts at a pivotal point in my life: time to think about what made me unique, time to reflect on what was most important to me, and the courage and confidence to set me free to choose how to spend the precious time I have on this spectacular planet. Thank you, Yvonne
